3.6 Weighted sound reduction index (Re.) and spectrum adaptation terms (C, Cir)
The single-number quantity resulting from a comparison of the values of measured sound reduction index (R) obtained using Equation 3.5 with reference values for one-third octave bands within the range 100 Hz to 3150 Hz, calculated in accordance with ASINZS Iso 717.1.
ASINZS ISO 717.1 provides values for two sound spectra that can be used to take into account the characteristics of particular sound spectra. The spectrum adaptation terms calculated using the measured sound reduction values are designated C and C’tr.
4 PRINCIPLE
A sample unit is fitted into a wall and is tested in accordance with AS 1191.
5 TEST LABORATORY AND WALL PREPARATION
5.1 Laborator
The test laboratory preparation shall be as follows:
(a) The test building facility shall be in accordance with AS 1191.
(b) The filler wall shall be built in the laboratory. Its construction shall be in accordance with AS 1191.
(c) The wall shall be tested for its acoustic value in accordance with AS 1191.
5.2 Test wall
The test wall preparation shall be as follows:
(a) The wall shall be prepared with an opening suitable to fit the test sample in accordance with Figure 1 for acoustics testing as either:
(i) Type 1—e.g. Window.
(ii) Type 2—e.g. Sliding Door.
(iii) Type 3—e.g. Hinged Door.
(b) The window shall be fitted into the wall utilizing standard fixing instructions as shown in the supplied drawings.
(c) The test specimen shall also meet the fixing requirements specified in AS 1191.
NOTE: The standard sized openings in Figure 1 are intended to allow for direct comparison between specimens and reduce the cost of testing for industry by limiting the number of variations in sizes available. There are no limitations placed on the configurations, or types of products which may be tested in each opening, however, further guidance is provided in Appendix A.AS 5218 pdf download.
