1.1 SCOPE
This Standard specifics requirements for pipes. integral joints and post-formed bends of PVC-M for the conveyance of water and wastewater under pressure. The pipes are intended for installation below ground. and above ground where they are not exposed to direct sunlight.
Appendix G sets out additional requirements for pipes classed as best environmental practice PVC pressure pipe.
NOTES:
I Relevant installation requirements for pipe systems, including PVC-M pressure pipes manufactured to this Standard and the associated fittings arc covered by AS/NZS 2032, AS/NZS 2566.2 and the AS/NZS 3500 series, as applicable.
2 If the intention is to usc pipes complying with this Standard for the conveyance of fluids other than water, the manufacturer should be consulted.
3 Two series of pipes arc specified (see the Foreword in this Standard).
1.2 MEANS FOR DEMONSTRATING COMPLIANCE
Appendix A specifies a means of demonstrating conformance with this Standard. Appendix A defines the minimum requirements for a sampling and testing plan. Where variations to this plan are made, demonstration of’ conformance with the minimum requirements may be necessary.
1.4 DEFINITIONS
For the purposes of this Standard, the definitions below apply.
1.4.1 Best environmental practice PVC pipes and fittings
Pipes or fittings produced by a manufacturer meeting both the requirements of the credit criteria prescribed in Appendix G and this Standard.
1.4.2 Ductile mode
The type of failure of the material where macroscopic plastic deformation occurs. In the case of a fractured surface, stress whitening is visible to the naked eye (normal or corrected
VISion).
1.4.3 Elevated temperature
Any temperature above 20°C.
1.4.4 Hoop stress
The stress in a pipe under pressure acting tangentially to the perimeter of a transverse section.
1.4.5 Hydrostatic design stress
The hoop stress due to internal hydrostatic pressure that can be continuously applied at a specified temperature. It is derived by the application of’ a design factor to the minimum required stress at 50 y.
1.4.6 Lower confidence limit of the predicted hydrostatic strength (aIpL)
A stress that represents the 97.5% lower confidence limit of the predicted hydrostatic strength at 50 y.
1.4.7 Maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP)
The maximum pressure that can be sustained, with a design factor, by the class of pipe for
its estimated useful life under the anticipated operating conditions.
1.4.8 Out-of-roundness
The difference between the measured maximum outside diameter and the measured minimum outside diameter in the same cross-section of the pipe.
